The Small Things Add Up
As I sit here debating how to write what I want
to write, it occurs to me to talk about Twitter.
Odds are you've been hearing more and more about
it these days, and odd are probably equally good
that you hear that it's a waste of time.
I find many who know nothing about it, or don't
really understand it, are the ones who are most
likely making those comments.
Do I truly understand it? No. Do I make money
doing it? No. Am I wasting my time as some
have told me I am? No.
Let me explain.
I joined Twitter at the end of January this year,
and as I struggled to make some sense of it, I
probably had about 50 people following me at
about the two week mark. Then one day, something
shifted. I am not sure what it was, but something
clicked, and at the time of this writing, I have
over 3300.
For anyone who hasn't been around Twitter that
sounds like a lot, so feel free to say "WOW."
However the number for me isn't a WOW. What is
a WOW is the great people I have met. What is a
WOW for me is the creativity that has come from
my interactions with those on Twitter. What is
a WOW are those I have met on Twitter.
Yes, I would like to make money. I do, after all,
have to make a living. It was why I initially got
onto Twitter - another way to market myself.
However, I have to believe that by truly connecting
with people there is a difference being made for me
and (as corny as it sounds) the world.
It's *funny* how one thing leads to another, and
recently I became aware of Collective Soul on
Twitter (@Collective_Soul). Not really a band I
was aware of much, I have become a big fan of
their music, and who they seem to be through their
Twitter and web presence.
One result of this appreciation was a blog entry
on my World of Perspective Blog. They wanted to be
number one, and have been asking people to buy their
new song on ITunes. It really is a simple request,
and at .69 an pretty small way to make a big
difference.
I wrote about how we could all do something seemingly
small that could make a big difference, and suggested
that perhaps people consider finding ways to do that.
It is amazing how we discount the small, thinking it
doesn't count. Several small drops in a bucket can
have an overflowing bucket eventually.
With this idea in mind, I now venture out with yet
another idea. I want this blog to be FULL of things
that people can do for another for less than a dollar.
Which btw can, and will, include things that will be
without any monetary cost at all. It is amazing how
many people can use help in ways that don't cost a
thing.
Even if you just send a link to this blog to those you
know, you could be making a difference. Even if you
can't do anything else, the fact that you are making
others aware, could make all the difference in the
world.
The small things.
I encourage you to consider the possibilities, and
submit what you need, or encourage your friends to.
Sometimes we know better what our friends need than
we do, LOL.
Requirements for submission:
Request must be for $1 USD or less if monetary value is
specified, or without any dollar value (such a request
to pass information along).
Request must be specific.
Request must have deadline. 3 months will be assigned to
the request, unless you indicate otherwise. If it is an
on-going request, just state "on-going."
Request must be a REQUEST for action of some sort.
If you are just looking to advertise yourself, please
visit The LINC Pages, and submit your information
there.
That is all for now. However, please recognize that
I want this to be helpful and beneficial, so I will
use discretion about what is included, and how it is
included. I also reserve the right to remove entries
at any time, and ask that if you have your request
fulfilled, you let me know. I will see how this goes,
and will likely amend as I go.
Request must be sent to info @ jolope.com with
"Dollar Difference" in Subject Line
Use the same address if you have any questions, or
feel free to contact me @JoLoPe on Twitter.
Per Dictionary.com the word difference means "a
significant change in or effect on a situation."
The very fact that you even made it here, counts.
Thanks for spreading the word,
the small things add up.
I want to prove
a $1 can make a difference.
I would love it if you'd help me!
